While many scenes in Memphis have ebbed and flowed in the past, one thing has remained constant: The Kick Back crew can be counted on for a bodacious hip-hop dance party at The High Tone, a resurrected music venue that is well respected in the city. Since its start, The Kick Back has featured three of Memphis’ most notable DJs, Devin Steel, Big Sue and DJ Superman (Chris McNeil) have entertained thousands, and has grown to be regarded as one of the cities favorite old school parties. Along with a live band, the record spinning/live music fusion embodies what an Old School party.
The vibe was absolutely energetic from start to finish. The music took me back to the days when we used to party (HARD) at Grambling States infamous block parties or at an old school house set. Back when we would pack that basement or backyard with all of your friends, and their friends’ friends, and THEIR friends’ friends. All you did was laugh, sing, drink, and dance all night till the lights came on.
